Rorschach, Bahnplatz 7 / Hauptstrasse 40
The charming “Gutenberghaus” is distinguished by its stained glass windows and ceiling paintings throughout the building. Since 2010, the apartments have been continuously renovated, with the attic being converted. In 2013/2014, the staircase, facade, and roof underwent complete restoration, with a strong focus on preserving the heritage-listed features of the property.
The listed apartment was meticulously restored and renovated in close collaboration with the cantonal monument preservation office. The stucco ceiling in the living room, the built-in closets in the entrance area, and the wood paneling were all carefully restored through intensive craftsmanship. High-quality herringbone oak parquet was installed in the entrance and hallway. To preserve the wall paneling in the kitchen, a modern, fully-equipped island kitchen was created. The bathroom is modern and features a shower, bathtub, vanity with storage, toilet, and a washer/dryer unit.
Expansion in the Gutenberg House.
The attic was re-developed and now offers three modern apartments. All bathrooms and kitchens were modernized and are equipped with the newest technology. The space that once was the pantry and washroom, have been re-designed and now offer a spacious living room. This historical building is located directly at the harbor of Rorschach and was built by Wilhelm Koch-Tobler (a well known publisher of the “Ostschweizer Wochenblatt”) in 1899. He called it Gutenberg, in memory of Johannes Gensfleisch (the inventor of book printing and moveable metal letters) who had the nickname Gutenberg. The brick stone facade shows elements of a Renaissance style paired with a classicist influence. The house “Gutenberg” is especially exclusive, because of its paintings on the ceilings and windows throughout the entire property. Since 2012 it has continuously been renovated and the living space has been expanded by creating a penthouse. The stairwell, roof and the facade of the building were renovated in 2013/2014. Belleside Real Estate AG took great care of preserving the buildings originality. The most spectacular feature of the building is the stairwell, with beautiful wooden stairs and a very detailed window portrait of the admired Johannes Gutenberg. The window painting features a family crest and a phrase with a religious message( God protect this building). Many of our properties are under historical protection and need to be maintained in their original form. This requires constant detailed renovation. Therefore when renovating this building we took great care to maintain the original characteristics of the facade and the stairwell.
